The social roots of the Israeli troubles
Daphni Leef was one of the participants in the protests that broke out in Israel lately, which started in the middle of July when Leef, the Israeli activist and editor, could not stand the increasing rent cost. Instead of looking for a new flat, she went to Rothschild Street, the most luxurious in the city, and erected a tent and launched a campaign on Facebook calling citizens to join it. Soon the protests started and stormed a social scene of decades of fierce neoliberalism reforms. This was followed by seven weeks of burning protests to reach their highest point on September 3 when more than 450 thousand people, i.e. 6% of the population, gathered and joined the demonstrations that broke out in Tel Aviv, Haifa and Al Quds and spread all over the country.
