Turkey entered marathon talks with the EU to be a full member since 2005 under the leadership of the Justice and Development Party. These talks greatly influenced the internal affairs of Turkey. The Turks attempt to fulfill Copenhagen criteria required to join the EU gradually led them to achieve a quantum leap which saved the political leadership from the domination of the military institution in the country.
